Melissa works from her studio in Grasmere, Cumbria, where she not only takes inspiration for her paintings from the surrounding Lakeland landscape but also from her travels abroad, poetry and imagination.

“My work takes its starting point form the language of colour be it in a landscape, a poem or the impressionistic view of what one sees in a passing glance or remembers when looking back via the minds’ eye. Many of my influences originate from the light and strong colours of the Mediterranean or contrastingly from subtle shades of the seas and skies around England and the Scottish islands.”
