On holiday, as a child I would sometimes sit beside my father as he painted landscapes in oils and try to make my own painting that he would be pleased with but it is only recently since I retired that I have begun to find my feet as an artist and celebrate my own joy in being creative.
My favourite medium is watercolour, I love the way the pigments respond to each other you never quite know what will happen and it feels like orchestrating a dance between the evolving image in my head and the playfulness of the paint in the paper. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t. I also love to draw in graphite and charcoal. I am inspired by nature, big landscapes and tiny details. I exhibit mostly at the ADAS October exhibitions but have also been lucky enough to exhibit at the Royal Botanic Gardens in Edinburgh and at the Saachi Gallery in London. I have a Diploma in Botanical Illustration and have been awarded a Royal Horticultural Society Gold Medal for my illustrations of Lichen.
