I took up painting in my late 40s, partly as a reaction to contracting ME/cfs and partly as a dinner party bet! Academically I’m a zoologist and environmental scientist but my career has involved the wine trade, restaurants and, as a Blue Badge Tourist Guide for both London and Cumbria, tourism. It has given me the opportunity for extensive travel to incredible locations. 

I’ve been hiking the lakeland fells since I was 10 and it is this landscape that inspires me most. I particularly enjoy pastels and oil painting but “mixing it up” and trying new techniques is what keeps it exciting as you never know how a painting will turn out. I’ve been a member of Ambleside and District Art Society for most of the time I’ve been painting and very much appreciate the artistic company and support that it provides.
