About ADAS

We are the Ambleside & District Art Society. Founded in 1974, we are a group of local artists in England’s Lake District, passionate about the beautiful place where we live.

The society is active and enthusiastic and gives a friendly welcome to those joining.

We have almost 100 active members, and anyone may join, regardless of ability, provided you live within a 10 mile radius of the town of Ambleside in the English Lake District.

Meetings are held weekly throughout the year — on Tuesday evenings (7-9pm) and a few afternoons (2-5pm) in the winter we meet in the wonderful Ambleside Parish Centre (Vicarage Rd, Ambleside LA22 9DH) to have talks, demonstrations and practical sessions aimed at improving our knowledge and skills. in the summer we meet outdoors on Thursday afternoons in a variety of inspiring locations.

Each October we hold an exhibition in the Ambleside Parish Centre where all members are encouraged to show , and hopefully sell, their paintings.

Archives of our activities have been maintained since the Society’s inception. These include chronological photograph albums and portfolios of original art by past and present members called the ‘Permanent Collection’.

Membership enquiries can be made by contacting the ADAS Admin. & Membership Secretary Sarah Traynier. Please message us on our CONTACT US page.
